How to know my ring size? Discover the guide to choose well.

Rings are one of the most popular and meaningful pieces of jewelry to give away (and also to buy them yourself!), but when you want to choose the perfect ring for someone special or when you want to buy online a ring that you love, you always find the same dilemma: how do you know my ring size?

The rings are a perfect and unique complement for each person. It is important that they do not squeeze too much, since they can be uncomfortable, or that they are too loose, because they can be lost. The ring in question has to be just right and, although it seems like an impossible mission, it is easier than it seems to hit the first time. If you need to know your size, if you want to make a gift or if you are preparing for an order, we help you find the right ring size.

Ring sizes and equivalences

In Spain there is a standard sizing that has its respective equivalences in other European and foreign measurements, although there are also brands that have their own sizing system. The most common sizes range from 8 to 30, for both men and women.

So that you can easily find your ring size in any size model, we have prepared the following table, which includes the main measurements in European and foreign formats:

*Note: measurements may vary in 0.1-0.2mm.

How do I know my ring size?

If you don’t know what your ring size is in any of the existing models, there are several ways to find out, depending on whether you have a ring by hand at the moment or not. Although not all of them are equally accurate, they can give you an approximation of which size is right for you.

Ring measuring table

On the José Luis Joyerías website you have available a size guide in which you can find the right ring size. You can find it here. You will need to print the guide and a ring that fits well (that goes in and out easily) to serve as a reference.

The procedure is simple: you need to match the inside of your ring with one of the printed circles and, in which it matches, it will be your size. Watch out! The line of the printed circle cannot be just below the inside of the ring or very separated; the most appropriate measure will be by touching just the inside.

Measure the diameter of the ring

An alternative to this method if you do not have a printer, although not so reliable, would be to use a rigid ruler to measure the diameter of the ring. You can do it on the ring itself or by drawing the outline on a sheet of paper and measuring on it. Subsequently, use the values guide in the previous section to find your ring size.

This shape is not so accurate because measuring the inner diameter of the ring with a ruler is difficult, but it can give you an approximate idea.

Measure your finger

Another option that you can use to know your ring size is to measure the contour of your finger. There are meters that fit on the finger and that provide you with the size with great precision, but if you don’t have one of them, there are alternatives that can work.

  • If you have a sewing tape measure: surround your finger with the tape and you will get the measurement in centimeters. Then, you just have to look for the equivalence in the measurement guide.
  • If you don’t have a tape measure: cut a thin strip of paper and wrap it around your finger. Mark the point where the closure coincides, not squeezing the paper too much, and you will get the measurement of the perimeter of your finger. Then, measure with a normal ruler or close it to use it with a ring measuring table. In this case, you could also use a fine rope or a thread.

Professional meters

One of the most recommended options to know exactly your ring size is to go to a jewelry store, where they will have professional meters to know the size. Some of these tools are the tatum stick, the ring or the king’s foot.

Tips for finding your ring size

There are some previous considerations that you should take into account before trying to find out your ring size, since they can have a considerable influence on the size obtained.

  • Factors such as heat, cold or humidity affect your hands. With the heat, the hands swell and, with the cold, they contract. This can make your size vary.
  • The finger you must measure to find the size must be the same as the one on which you are going to wear the ring. The fingers have different measurements (something that also influences is whether it is the right or left hand), make sure to measure the correct one.
  • The rings that are wider are usually a little tighter, so it would be advisable (if possible) to take as a reference a ring similar to the one you are going to buy.
  • A ring that looks good is the one that is not too loose or tight, that can move a little up and down and also turn on itself.
  • When in doubt between two sizes, it would be advisable to choose the larger one, because it could be adjusted if necessary.

With all these methods gathered in this blog, you will be able to find the size of your ring very easily. Don’t forget to check all our available rings and, if you have any questions, contact us so we can help you.
